Who we are
Our website address is: https://learn.Kinu.ca
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. We collect this information on the basis of our legitimate interest in maintaining the security and integrity of the site, and to facilitate community interaction. This data will not be used for any purpose beyond moderating comments and preventing spam.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be shared with the Gravatar service to check whether you are using it. This sharing occurs automatically when you leave a comment. If you prefer not to use Gravatar, you may leave the email field blank or use an email address not associated with a Gravatar account. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture (if any) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Please be aware that visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. You may withdraw this consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies. For information about how to manage or delete cookies, please consult your browser’s help documentation.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. We may also share your data with the following categories of third parties: (a) spam detection service providers (such as the service used to screen visitor comments); (b) profile image services; (c) embedded content providers on third-party websites whose content appears on this site; and (d) any other service providers who assist us in operating this website, subject to confidentiality obligations. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained for three (3) years] from the date of posting, after which they will be anonymized or deleted. This retention period allows us to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue, and to maintain an accurate record of public discussions on the site. You may request earlier deletion of your personal data as described in the “What rights you have over your data” section below.
For users who register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, loss, or misuse. In the event of a privacy breach that poses a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by applicable law.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Some or all of the personal data we collect may be transferred to and processed by service providers located outside Canada, including in the United States. When personal data is transferred to a foreign jurisdiction, it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction, including laws that permit government authorities to access personal data without your knowledge or consent. By using this website, you acknowledge and consent to such transfers. We take steps to ensure that any foreign service providers to whom your data is disclosed provide a comparable level of protection to that required under Canadian law.
